Resumen

En las primeras décadas de vida de Santa Cruz, la corriente pobladora proveniente del archipiélago de las Malvinas fue un aporte importante para la ocupación de la región. Debido a este hecho histórico, promovido desde las esferas gubernamentales, se fueron construyendo lazos familiares y económicos entre los que partieron de las Islas y los que permanecieron en ellas. En el marco de esas relaciones familiares se fue construyendo una memoria que se fue cargando de matices a medida que la entidad político-administrativa de ambos territorios se iba complejizando y las relaciones familiares se iban atenuando. Sobre esta memoria, que podríamos calificar de regional, debido al conflicto bélico de 1982, surgió otra memoria: la de la propia guerra, en la que estuvieron directamente implicados los integrantes de la sociedad civil santacruceña. Por ese motivo, podríamos afirmar que, en esta provincia, en lo referido a las Malvinas, hay dos “memorias” que coexisten, con distinto grado de visibilidad: la más antigua, basada en los lazos a los que nos referimos, y la más reciente, que posee un fuerte tinte belicista. El propósito de nuestro artículo es evidenciar estas dos memorias utilizando los numerosos testimonios orales, y frente a la predominancia de la referida al conflicto bélico, contribuir a rescatar la memoria más antigua. De esta manera, podríamos contribuir a enriquecer la visión que en la Argentina se tiene de las islas Malvinas.

Summary

During the first decades of Santa Cruz’s life, the immigration that came from the Malvinas Islands was very important for the land’s occupancy in this region. Due to this historical event, which was fostered by the Argentine government, family and economic ties were built between those who left the islands and those who stayed. Within the context of these family relationships, a memory was construed, which was full of different shades as the political and administrative entities in both territories became more complex and the family ties weakened. About this memory, that we could say is regional, a new memory appeared due to the war in 1982: that of the war itself, in which the members of the Santa Cruz community were a part of. Due to this fact, we could say that in this province, in referring to Malvinas, there are two “memories” that coexist with a different degree of visibility: the older one, based on the ties to which we have referred, and the more recent, that has a more bellicose tint. The purpose of this article is to prove both these memories using many oral testimonies, and in view of the fact that the one referred to the war prevails, help rescue the older memory. We could, in this manner, contribute in enriching the vision that in Argentina we have of the Malvinas Islands.
