Este artículo investiga la relación entre juguetes e historia durante la guerra de Malvinas. Propone una perspectiva multidisciplinaria que conjuga el relato histórico con conceptos y teorías tomados de los estudios culturales, los trabajos por la memoria y los estudios sobre la infancia y la cultura material para responder la siguiente pregunta: ¿qué nos dicen estos objetos de la relación entre infancia, política e historia durante esos años y de los vínculos entre identidad nacional e industria juguetera en el contexto de las políticas económicas implementadas por la última dictadura (1976-1983), en particular de la apertura a las importaciones? A partir del análisis de una serie de juguetes y piezas coleccionables asociadas al conflicto con Inglaterra, advertimos que la industria argentina de juguetes respondió a la crisis del sector más con ingenio e improvisación que con planificación. El reciclaje de juguetes ya manufacturados bajo una nueva cosmética vinculada a Malvinas dio como resultado un conjunto de piezas híbridas, hechas con materiales, referencias y marcas nacionales y extranjeras, habitadas por personajes, paisajes y escenas que proponen un universo anacrónico e imposible, una ficción más dentro de las múltiples fantasías construidas en torno a la islas del Atlántico Sur.

Abstract

This article investigates the relationship between toys and history during the Malvinas War drawing on historical accounts and theories of material culture, memory, and childhood. It addresses the following question: what do these objects tell us about the relationship between childhood, politics and history during the period of the conflict and what do they reveal about the links between national identity and the toy industry in the context of the economic policies implemented by the 1976-1983 military dictatorship, particularly with regard to the expansion of the import market? Analysing a range of toys and collectibles associated with the conflict, we conclude that the Argentine toy industry responded to the crisis in the sector with inventiveness and improvisation rather than careful planning. The recycling of pre-existing toys with new cosmetics linked to Malvinas resulted in hybrid pieces, comprised of national and foreign materials, references, and brands, and inhabited by characters, landscapes and scenes that shaped an anachronistic and impossible universe, another fiction among the many built around the islands of the South Atlantic.
