Submissions

Author Guidelines

Contributions may take four main formats:

• Scientific articles
• Critical essays
• Interviews with relevant figures
• Reviews of books published in the last three years

They may be written in Spanish, Portuguese, English or French. In all cases they are published in their original language. In the cases of contributions in English or French, authors must accompany their proposals (first submission) with a 400-word abstract in Spanish.

Contributions must be original and unpublished. This means that they must not have been published nor be in the process of being published, in any medium, whether printed or electronic (journals, books, websites).

Once received, each contribution is subjected to a review/evaluation process in two phases. In the first, the Editorial Collective establishes the adequacy and relevance of the contribution. In the second, the contribution is evaluated by academic peers (double-blind system), external to the journal and the publishing unit. The first process takes no more than ten days, while the results of the second are reported within the subsequent 45 working days.

Those who submit contributions to Wirapuru must do so following the editorial guidelines detailed below. Proposals that do not strictly adhere to the format, length and citation criteria indicated in the guidelines will be returned to the authors in the first instance, that is, without initiating the second phase of the review/evaluation process.

Unless expressly indicated otherwise, works published in Wirapuru always represent the points of view of the authors, without involving the positions of the journal's direction, council or committee.

Editorial Guidelines

Abstract and keywords (cover page "a")

All articles, critical essays, reviews and interviews must be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 200 words, as well as between three and five keywords. Both the title and the abstract and keywords must be submitted in Spanish, Portuguese and English. The abstract and keywords must be presented on a separate page, at the beginning of the manuscript, as a cover page (a).

All contributions must be accompanied by the following author information: nationality, highest academic degree, main institutional affiliation (spelled out, with acronyms in parentheses) and email address. In the case of more than one author, the information must be specified for each one, respecting the order from the main author to the secondary ones. It is of the utmost importance not to confuse the authorial figure with those of possible collaborators or assistants (see the CRediT taxonomy on academic collaboration roles). This information will be presented on a separate page, at the beginning of each contribution, as a cover page (b).

Format and font

Presentations submitted to Wirapuru must be prepared according to the following guidelines:

• Single spacing with left indent of 0.6
• Times New Roman 12 font for the body text
• Times New Roman 10 font for footnotes

Title and subtitles

• Main title centered, in Times New Roman 16 font. It is recommended that the main title not exceed sixteen words. A blank line should be left after the title.
• Level 1 subtitles, centered, unnumbered, in Times New Roman 14 font. A blank line should be left before and after each level 1 subtitle.
• Level 2 subtitles, left-aligned, unnumbered, in italics, in Times New Roman 12 font. A blank line should be left before and after each level 2 subtitle.

Bold and italics

The use of bold and italics in the body text should be avoided. The use of italics should be reserved to highlight phrases in languages other than that of the contribution.

Length

• Scientific articles: a minimum of 5,000 words, a maximum of 8,000 (including footnotes)
• Critical essays: a maximum of 10,000 words
• Interviews: a minimum of 2,000 words, a maximum of 4,000
• Bibliographic reviews: a minimum of 1,000 words, a maximum of 3,000

Citations

With respect to citation and other paratextual entries, APA standards must be used. For examples and usage modes, see https://normas-apa.org/referencias/ejemplos/

Bibliography format: ordered alphabetically, with hanging indent of 0.6cm.

Authorship recognition (CRediT)

Those who submit a collaboration for publication in this journal must take into account that the writing must have been read and approved by all signatories and that each of them must agree with its submission to the journal.

Recognition of authorship must be based on: 1) important contributions to the idea and design of the study or to the collection, analysis and interpretation of data; 2) drafting the article or critical review of substantial intellectual content; 3) final approval of the version to be published. When applicable, in original articles authorship and participation roles must be declared according to the CRediT taxonomy:

• Conceptualization – Ideas; formulation or evolution of overarching research goals and aims.
• Data curation – Management activities to annotate (produce metadata), scrub data and maintain research data (including software code, where it is necessary for interpreting the data itself) for initial use and later reuse.
• Formal analysis – Application of statistical, mathematical, computational, or other formal techniques to analyze or synthesize study data.
• Funding acquisition – Acquisition of the financial support for the project leading to this publication.
• Investigation – Conducting a research and investigation process, specifically performing the experiments, or data/evidence collection.
• Methodology – Development or design of methodology; creation of models.
• Project administration – Management and coordination responsibility for the research activity planning and execution.
• Resources – Provision of study materials, reagents, materials, patients, laboratory samples, animals, instrumentation, computing resources or other analysis tools.
• Software – Programming, software development; design of computer programs; implementation of the computer code and supporting algorithms; testing of existing code components.
• Supervision – Oversight and leadership responsibility for the research activity planning and execution, including mentorship external to the core team.
• Validation – Verification, whether as a part of the activity or separate, of the overall replication/reproducibility of results/experiments and other research outputs.
• Visualization – Preparation, creation and/or presentation of the published work, specifically visualization/data presentation.
• Writing – original draft – Preparation, creation and/or presentation of the published work, specifically writing the initial draft (including substantive translation).
• Writing – review & editing – Preparation, creation and/or presentation of the published work by those from the original research group, specifically critical review, commentary or revision – including pre- or post-publication stages.

Collaborators who do not meet authorship criteria should be included in acknowledgments. The CRediT taxonomy describes all academic collaboration roles (hdlab.space/taxonomia). All authors must be uploaded at the time of submission.
