A discussion on the origin of Integralism: an analysis of the Manifesto de Outubro

Much has been discussed and compared regarding Bolsonarism to fascist
movements of the past, such as Fascism or even Nazism. However, little has been discussed
about Integralism, a movement analogous to Fascism that was partially absorbed in its
contemporary versions by Bolsonarism. The objective of this article is, through a
hermeneutic exercise and close-reading on the founding material of Integralism, the
Manifesto de outubro, in dialogue with a theoretical basis on Integralism, from which
Fascismo em camisas verdes stands out, to understand the rhetorical constructions,
discursive and argumentative aspects of Plínio Salgado and their proximities and differences
with Fascism and Bolsonarism. With the justification of expanding the state of the art of
studies on movements with a fascist matrix, this work proposes to answer the following
question: what are the points of discursive consent and dissent, from the Manifesto de
outubro, with other similar movements?
