This text asks why and for what purpose the discipline of history should return to the study of left-wing ideas, especially those of Latin America. It is proposed that the study of these ideas is relevant and possible due, on the one hand, to the updating of the claims that the left has historically installed and, on the other, to the possibilities opened up by the development of the discipline, which has broadened the field and the definition of the study of ideas, thus incorporating systematic bodies of thought that were not addressed in this line.
