Nation, Humanism, and Primacy of Politics in the Early Writings of Horacio González

This text analyzes the intricate relationship between nation and humanism in a selection of Horacio González’s early writings, published between 1971 and 1985. A reading of these texts by González enables the continuation of a discussion with theoretical variations on politicism and economism, which also have a controversial political-practical translation in relation to the contemporary interpretation of the Peronist phenomena. With an eye to the way in which González develops an Argentine political and social theory, the proposed conceptual articulation exposes the reciprocity between a way of thinking about the nation and a way of thinking about humanism, while at the same time unfolding each of them to explore their internal complexity: because neither the nation can be defined without the people, nor can humanism be understood without considering the need to produce the primacy of politics as the outcome of a series of struggles embedded in inherited economic conditions.
