Toward a Critical Reassessment of the Concept of Hegemony in Contemporary Neoliberalism

This brief essay explores Antonio Gramsci’s theory with regard to the concept of hegemony. Its purpose is to examine whether this concept makes it possible to study certain phenomena that take place within neoliberalism. To this end, the text focuses on two main points. First, it revisits the analytical richness offered by a concept that may appear, at first glance, old or archaic, such as that of hegemony. Second, it examines how neoliberalism can be analyzed through the concept of hegemony, as well as through other related notions, such as the crisis of hegemony and passive revolution. Finally, the essay explicitly addresses the reasons for insisting on the use of this concept and recapitulates what is gained by doing so.
