About the Journal

Themes and scope

The journal El arco y la lira is an academic journal whose purpose is to promote a space for philosophical production and debate open to all orientations and themes, as well as to dialogue and exchange with other theoretical disciplines.

It publishes original and unpublished works, in Spanish and Portuguese, that contribute to the advancement of knowledge on the topics addressed and that contribute to the debate on the problems of theoretical philosophy and practical philosophy. At the same time, the journal publishes notes and interventions on various authors and interpreters and original translations.

It is published annually.

Section policy

El arco y la lira has a permanent open call for papers. Contributions submitted must be original and unpublished and may not be simultaneously under evaluation in another publication.

  • The Articles section considers for publication original and unpublished research papers in which the author presents one or more theses related to a philosophical theme (Length: no less than 6000 and no more than 8000 words including footnotes). The texts in this section are peer-reviewed.
  • The Study Material section considers for publication the first translation into Spanish of journal articles, book chapters or other kinds of works originally published in other languages that constitute a contribution to the discipline. The texts submitted to this section will be evaluated by the Editorial Committee.
  • The Notes section considers for publication original and unpublished papers that adopt the following modalities: i) a paper that offers an overview of the state of the art of a problem, ii) a paper focused on a single point of a broader theme, and iii) a text that presents a critical position on an article that has appeared in the journal or in other publications (Length: no less than 3000 and no more than 4000 words, including footnotes). The texts in this section are peer-reviewed.
  • The Dossier section considers for publication sets of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 papers with a common theme, related to the objectives of the journal under an appropriate title and with an introduction. The texts in this section are peer-reviewed.
  • The Reviews section offers reviews of recently published books that stand out for their contributions to the discipline (Length: no less than 750 and no more than 1500 words, including footnotes). Texts submitted to this section will be evaluated by the Editorial Committee.

Peer review process

Articles, notes and Dossier papers will be evaluated by external reviewers selected by the Editorial Committee following the guidelines of the double-blind refereeing system, keeping the identity of the author and reviewers in reserve during the evaluation process to guarantee the quality of the contents. The Editorial Committee will make a first review of the originals to ensure proper compliance with the journal's editorial standards. After this stage, the articles will be sent to external referees to evaluate their quality. If the evaluations do not coincide and have discrepancies, the Editorial Committee reserves the right to request a third evaluation. Depending on the judgment expressed by the evaluators, the Editorial Committee may accept, request modifications or reject the contribution.
