Legislating, pressuring, expressing. Strategies of the national deputies of the Frente Patria Grande (2019-2023)

Abstract

This paper analyses the experience of three national deputies who belong to the Frente Patria Grande, who, as part of their adherence to the Frente de Todos government, occupied seats in the National Chamber of Deputies between 2019 and 2023. Based on field observations, documentary analysis and in-depth interviews with the studied deputies and their work teams, this research shows unseen aspects of the daily work carried out by these legislators. This paper shows that three dimensions were juxtaposed in their legislative strategy: that of producing or amending laws and legislative texts; that of using their seats to pressure for public policies; and that of ‘expressing’ the arrival of the popular sectors to power.
