Perón’s Fall from a Colombian Perspective

Abstract

Juan Domingo Perón, Evita Perón and Peronism did not go unnoticed in Colombia. Two events are highlighted in this text on the fall of the president who had governed Argentina since 1946: The long days of June 16 and those of September 19, 1955. We deal with the reasons and motives of the tremendous impact of the event in Colombia, which was also living under a military regime. We trace the influence of Peronism in positive and negative among the people of Colombia, among the political parties and their media. We tried to show the imitations of the Argentine regime by the Colombian military government (1953-1957), its successes and failures. We show that it was in Colombia where Perón had the most biting of his graphic enemies: Péter Áldor and we demonstrate that the fall of Perón was the preamble to the overthrow of Colombian President Gustavo Rojas Pinilla on May 10, 1957. The article warns of Perón's latent presence in Colombia beyond his fall.
