From the “Liberating Revolution” to the Western bloc: dialogues between the global order and post-Peronist Argentina

In this article I intend to analyse the change in Argentine foreign policy after the coup of 55 and its local consequences. Specifically, I am interested in studying the process by which the second de facto president, General P.E. Aramburu, managed to align Argentina with the Western Bloc, within the framework of the Cold War. Firstly, I analyse how the coup against Perón was read in different countries and how the Peronist government differed from the military governments of the self-proclaimed Liberation Revolution in comparison, with regard to the economic, the social and the political-ideological. Thus, secondly, I study how this international image projected by the “Libertadora” benefitted the strengthening of links with the Western powers, fundamentally in relation to the fight against totalitarianism, which included both Peronism and communism. For this, finally, I intend to demonstrate that the role of the post-war global scenario was relevant as an articulator of the Argentine military government with the conservative right of the Western bloc.
