Abstract

The announcement of the death of the singer Raffaella Carrà on July 5th, 2021, triggered a major media event and had a significant impact on collective sensitivity. In the days following, numerous tributes to the artist appeared on social media and personal brands that she left in the life experiences of her audiences, especially during the mid-seventies and eighties. In Argentina, three heartfelt and autobiographical journalistic articles were published, all coinciding in paying tribute to her figure by associating her with the identity configurations of men, for whom her music served as a key escape from the heteropatriarchal discourse. This situation prompts reflection on the gender meanings that emerge between certain musical artists and audiences articulating a different gender identity within a cultural and communicational context dominated by patriarchal discourse. Among the three narratives mentioned, this work examines Raffaella Carrà's contribution to her artistic career and her reception in Argentina, aiming to analyze and highlight the cultural role of pop divas.
