Abstract

Between ignorance, impotence and voluntarism: health and school institutions in face of fatherhoods in youths

Este artículo analiza las estrategias e intervenciones de las instituciones sanitarias y escolares frente a las paternidades juveniles en un barrio popular platense. En el marco de una investigación doctoral que abordó las experiencias de paternidad de varones jóvenes y partiendo de la premisa de que estas experiencias se construyen y disputan con otros/as actores/as, este trabajo indaga sobre las respuestas que las instituciones brindaron ante este acontecimiento en el contexto de su labor diaria con jóvenes que transitan por estos espacios. Las entrevistas fueron realizadas a funcionarias y referentes sanitarias y escolares de un barrio popular de La Plata (provincia de Buenos Aires) durante el período 2013-2015 sobre la base de una muestra intencional a partir de los criterios de accesibilidad, significatividad y heterogeneidad. Como se mostrará, detrás de las intervenciones institucionales subyacen diferentes miradas y discursos sobre la juventud que permean su accionar y se configuran como soportes (o no) que favorecen o agravan las condiciones de vulnerabilidad de los jóvenes entrevistados. Sin un abordaje integral, es entre el desconocimiento, la impotencia y el voluntarismo desde donde se producen las respuestas institucionales para abordar las paternidades de los jóvenes, con mejores o peores resultados.

Abstract

This article analyses the strategies and interventions of health and school institutions in the face of youth paternities in a popular neighborhood of La Plata (province of Buenos Aires). In the framework of a doctoral research that addressed fatherhood experiences of young men and based on the premise that these are constructed and disputed with other actors, this work investigates the responses that the institutions provided to this event, in the context of their daily work with young people. The interviews were conducted with officials and health and school referents of a popular neighborhood of La Plata during the period 2013-2015, based on an intentional sample on the criteria of accessibility, significance and heterogeneity. As it will be shown, behind the institutional interventions there are different discourses on youth that affect their actions, configuring themselves as supports (or not) that favor or aggravate the conditions of vulnerability of the young people interviewed. Without a comprehensive approach, it is between ignorance, impotence and voluntarism that these institutional responses are produced to address the fatherhoods of young people, with better or worse results.
