About the Journal
Focus and scope of Prácticas de Oficio
Prácticas de Oficio is an open-access electronic journal that promotes reflection and research in the social sciences and humanities. Published biannually (June, and December) by the Graduate Program in Social Sciences at the National University of General Sarmiento and the Institute for Economic and Social Development, the journal serves as a meeting place for researchers, academics, and professionals interested in exploring the frontiers of knowledge in these disciplines.
The journal's objective is to promote discussion of relevant and contemporary issues in the social sciences and humanities, with a particular focus on the theoretical, conceptual, and methodological dimensions of research. We seek works that contribute to enriching academic debate and offer new perspectives on the social and cultural challenges of our time.
The journal accepts contributions in Spanish, Portuguese, and English.
Target audience
The journal is aimed at a broad and diverse audience, including researchers and academics from different disciplines in the social sciences and humanities, as well as undergraduate and graduate students and professionals from multiple fields related to the study and practice of these sciences.
Peer review process
The articles in the dossier and those in the texts section will be evaluated by external reviewers selected by the Editorial Committee following the guidelines of the double-blind arbitration system, keeping the identity of the author and reviewers confidential during the evaluation process to ensure the quality of the content.
The evaluation will pay particular attention to:
- Originality and relevance: The original contribution of the work to the field of knowledge and its importance for current debates.
- Methodological rigor: The soundness of the theoretical and methodological framework used in the research.
- Clarity and conciseness: The clarity of the presentation of ideas and the conciseness of the writing.
- Coherence and structure: The logical organization of the work and the coherence between the different parts.
Receipt of an article does not imply its acceptance for publication. All articles received are evaluated, in the first instance, by an internal review by the Editorial Committee. Those works that meet the criteria required for publication in these guidelines will be submitted to two external peer reviews by experts in the specific subject matter of the text or in related subjects, according to the "double-blind" system. These reviewers will evaluate the originality of the article and its relationship to the topics favored by the journal; its conceptual clarity and bibliographic updating; the relevance of the selected methodology; the contributions to knowledge derived from the content; and the conclusions expressed in the text. In the event of one favorable and one unfavorable evaluation, a third evaluation will be requested to determine whether or not the article will be published.
The reviewers will recommend to the Editorial Committee: to publish the article without changes, to publish the article after introducing formal and/or substantive changes, or to reject its publication. Articles that are publishable but require formal and/or substantive changes will be returned to the authors for revision and must be resubmitted within 20 days. The changes made will be evaluated by the Editorial Committee and, eventually, the work may be sent back for external review. The acceptance of reviews and thesis plans is at the discretion of the Committee, which may suggest modifications to the authors.
It is the responsibility of the Editorial Committee to maintain communication with authors and reviewers; to ensure that articles submitted for external review comply with publication guidelines; and that the journal is available online in a timely manner. It is the responsibility of the External Advisory Committee to suggest topics for the dossiers section and to recommend potential external reviewers for the articles received.

Plagiarism management
Prácticas de oficio only publishes original articles written by the authors who sign them and that have not been previously published in any format, whether print or electronic. By submitting their manuscript, authors confirm that it has not been published, in whole or in part, in any other medium. In addition, they must declare whether they have produced works derived from the same research, pointing out the similarities and differences. The Editorial Committee will evaluate this information to determine whether there are cases of self-plagiarism, duplication, or fragmentation, and will decide whether the manuscript can be submitted for review.
Specialized tools are used to detect plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplication, and fragmentation, such as http://www.plagius.com/ and https://plagiarismdetector.net. Internet searches (including the English version) and scientific databases are also used to identify possible infringements of this type.
These detection processes are managed by the journal's editorial office, and reviewers are also invited to collaborate in the identification of plagiarism.
If any ethical violations are detected, the guidelines recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org) and the Council of Science Editors (CSE) (https://www.councilscienceeditors.org) will be followed.
Research data
Prácticas de oficio adheres to open research data policies (Law 26.899). It is expected that, where appropriate, the data supporting the research results that gave rise to the article be archived in a public repository. Likewise, where relevant, the availability of such data should be reported by means of a corresponding citation at the end of the References section.

Submissions
Articles and contributions in general are accepted throughout the year. Authors interested in publishing in the journal should consult the guidelines for authors available on the journal's website: https://revistas.ungs.edu.ar/index.php/po/about/submissions
Editorial workflow and peer review process
All submitted manuscripts undergo a preliminary review by the Editorial Committee to determine whether they comply with the journal's objectives, editorial policies, and guidelines. Original articles that have not been simultaneously submitted to other journals, proposals for thematic dossiers, and book reviews are accepted. After this preliminary review, the Editorial Committee sends the article to two external reviewers for evaluation under a double-blind system (see the Submissions section).
Once accepted, reviewers have four weeks to complete the evaluation form. After receiving it, the Editorial Committee will make a decision: accept the article, request corrections from the authors, or reject it.
Revised and corrected manuscripts are reviewed by the Editorial Committee, which will verify whether their suggestions have been adequately addressed . In case of disagreement between the reviewers, a third opinion will be sought to break the tie. Based on this evaluation, the article may be finally accepted or rejected.
If the manuscript is accepted, it will proceed to style correction and final layout, where the author's collaboration will be required to respond to requests from the editorial production team and correct any errors. The Editorial Committee will be responsible for ensuring that the anonymous peer review process is completed, as far as possible, within a maximum period of 3 months.
The editorial workflow is completed with the steps established by the Open Journal Systems used by the journal, as shown in the following diagram:

Principles and responsibilities of editors, authors, and reviewers, with the aim of ensuring the integrity, transparency, and quality of published research
Editorial Team:
It remains committed to continuously improving the journal in areas such as scientific quality and ensuring that each issue is published in a timely manner. Members of the Editorial Team must be willing to issue corrections, clarifications, or retractions when necessary, and make editorial decisions based on the relevance, originality, and clarity of articles, avoiding any conflicts of interest. It is essential that they guarantee the confidentiality of the evaluation process, maintaining the anonymity of both authors and reviewers. They must also analyze the possibility of plagiarism and protect copyright, and ensure that manuscripts are evaluated fairly, without discrimination of any kind. In addition, they may not use unpublished information or materials for their own benefit without the express authorization of the authors.
Editors shall promptly inform authors of the status of their manuscripts and ensure that the peer review process is impartial and rigorous. Finally, they shall ensure that the journal's content is accessible to readers.
Editorial Committee
Works closely with the Editorial Team to ensure the academic excellence of the journal. Clearly defines and communicates peer review procedures, ensuring transparency and fairness in the process. Acts as a mediator in any disputes that may arise, always promoting dialogue and conflict resolution.
External Advisory Committee
Reviewers must maintain an impartial and objective approach when evaluating each manuscript, without incurring conflicts of interest with the research, authors, or funders of the study. In addition, they are required to maintain the confidentiality of the articles reviewed. Their role also involves supporting the editor in making editorial decisions and, through feedback to authors, contributing to improving the quality of the works.
If they do not feel qualified to review a manuscript or cannot complete it within a reasonable time frame, they must inform the editor to excuse themselves from the process. The reviewer's comments must be objective and clear, supported by solid arguments and a pedagogical and scientific approach.
The reviewer is responsible for pointing out any relevant work that the authors have not cited and ensuring that any previously reported statements are properly referenced. They also undertake to detect and report cases of plagiarism and fraud in the data presented. Any conflict of interest, plagiarism, or fraudulent information identified during the review must be reported to the editor immediately.
Authors
Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are original and that the data has been obtained ethically. If necessary, they must attach the approval of the Research Ethics Committee. In addition, they must guarantee that their work has not been previously published or is under consideration in another journal.
Authors must make the corrections suggested by the reviewers within a maximum period of three weeks, and have contributed significantly to the research. They must also declare the authenticity of the data and ensure that there is no conflict of interest between the authors or with financial institutions. If the research has been funded, the source of such funding must be clearly stated, as well as any other commitments that could influence the results .
Proper acknowledgment of the work of others is essential, so relevant publications that have influenced the research must be cited.
If a significant error or inaccuracy is detected in your published work, it is the author's responsibility to notify the publisher immediately and cooperate in correcting the manuscript.
