Although it was only at the end of his life that Louis Althusser explicitly considered the problems of political action beyond the ironclad determinations of structures, Emilio de Ípola argues that these themes were already present, albeit muted, in his work from the very beginning of his intellectual journey. Also an attentive reader of Borges, de Ípola studies one of the Argentine writer’s short stories from this same perspective, finding inspiration to draft one of his own literary fictions, which is of great value for theoretical reflection on the problem of freedom.
