About the Journal

Theme and scope

Ensambles is an academic social sciences journal published by the Universidad Nacional de General Sarmiento (UNGS), committed to publishing studies on society, politics, economics, and culture. Our goal is to open a space for the discussion of ideas that contribute to a more complex and diverse understanding of society through interdisciplinary dialogue and the integration of diverse voices and perspectives.

Published twice a year, Ensambles promotes a critical and interdisciplinary approach that integrates academia and artistic expressions such as literature, music, film, theater, and photography. The journal is open to receiving original articles in Spanish and Portuguese for its thematic dossiers, as well as for its permanent sections, all of which are evaluated through a peer review process. In addition to academic articles, reviews, translations, and other ways of exploring the social through art and culture are also published.

At Ensambles, we believe that knowledge cannot be built without criticism, so every text, comment, or analysis is open to debate by those who wish to learn, exchange ideas, and contribute to social transformation. Although rooted in the academic sphere, the journal seeks to challenge the traditional rules of social analysis, opening up dialogue to different actors and perspectives, always in search of continuous reflection and drafts on a complex and constantly changing reality.

The publication is structured into several sections. The “Dossier” addresses current debates at the national, Latin American, and global levels, while “Assembled Texts” receives contributions outside the dossier's theme. “Research Drafts” reflects on the methodologies used in social analysis, and “Other Textures” focuses on interaction with art, photography, chronicles, and other forms of understanding the social. The “Reviews and Passwords” section offers critical readings of recent works, while “NdeT” presents translations of texts that inspire new perspectives.

All Ensambles publications are open access, and the journal does not charge authors any fees. In this way, we seek to be more than a collection of articles; we want to be a space for the integration and assembly of voices, perspectives, and knowledge that reconfigure the complexity of the social. Our commitment is to create a continuous dialogue with our readers and social actors to contribute, from the social sciences, to the understanding and transformation of our societies.

Section Policy

Ensambles publishes each issue with a main thematic call for submissions in dossier format, accompanied by complementary sections that broaden the view of social issues from different perspectives and languages.

The journal maintains an open and permanent call for submissions for all its sections. Contributions must be original and unpublished and must not be under simultaneous review by other publications.

Dossier

Each issue is organized around a thematic dossier, which brings together up to five articles linked by a common issue, accompanied by an introduction that articulates them. The topics must be in line with the magazine's objectives, addressing relevant debates in the social sciences from a critical and situated approach.

Assembled Texts

This section includes works that are not part of the issue's dossier but that address, from different perspectives, social, economic, political, and cultural debates and issues in Argentina, Latin America, or the world. These are original and unpublished texts that enrich the issue outside of the central thematic focus.

Draft research

A space for sharing progress, reflections, and problematizations on ongoing research processes. The section seeks to highlight the paths, obstacles, detours, and findings that are part of the “kitchen” of knowledge production.

Other textures

Section dedicated to the exploration of the social through artistic and expressive languages: literature, chronicles, photography, painting, cinema, among others. It proposes sensitive and heterogeneous ways of intervening in contemporary discussions.

Reviews and passwords

This section publishes short texts that offer a situated, critical, or personal reading of relevant works in the field of social sciences and humanities. Contributions may take an essayistic, interpretive, or dialogical tone.

NdeT – Translation notes

This section presents translations of articles, essays, or other significant texts that allow for the incorporation of new perspectives or the updating of discussions from other theoretical geographies.

Peer review process

Articles submitted to the Dossier, Assembled Texts, and Draft Research sections will be evaluated by external reviewers selected by the Editorial Committee following the guidelines of the double-blind arbitration system, keeping the identity of the author and reviewers confidential during the evaluation process to ensure the quality of the content. The Editorial Committee will conduct an initial review of the originals to ensure compliance with the journal's editing standards. After this stage, the articles will be sent to external reviewers to evaluate their quality. If the evaluations do not coincide and there are discrepancies, the Editorial Committee reserves the right to request a third evaluation. Based on the judgment of the reviewers, the Editorial Committee may accept, request modifications, or reject the contribution.
