L-Gante: el mal negro: Música popular, clase y raza en la cultura contemporánea argentina
Keywords:
popular music, class, raceAbstract
In this article we are interested in reflecting on the music and career of L-Gante and the ways in which the discourses of class and race are articulated in popular/mass music in contemporary Argentina, also taking into account the age gap, as the basis of a discussion that in general does not value the music of artists like this one, since it reduces his artistic-musical production to the expressions of a young man of low income. In order to fulfill our objectives, we will first take a brief look at the singer's biography; then we will analyze some of his best-known songs; finally, we will propose a selection of his main media moments. To close, we will propose some questions about the relationship between class and race prejudice in contemporary mass culture, its possibilities and limitations.
